Composer. Organist. Storyteller through sound.
About Me
Hi, I’m Thomas Fielding, an organist, composer, and currently the Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Cleveland, Ohio. I also serve as Music Coordinator for the Diocese of Cleveland’s Office of Worship.
I earned my Doctor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I studied with Christopher Young. Before that, I studied with Martin Jean and Robert A. Hobby and completed my undergraduate studies at Valparaiso University.
Work & Experience
Performances
I’ve had the honor of performing across the U.S., England, France and the Netherlands, including the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and two recitals at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. I’ve been awarded first prize in both the Arthur Poister and San Marino national organ competitions, and have received multiple scholarships and music awards throughout my academic career.
I’ve also served as Dean of the Central North Carolina Chapter of the American Guild of Organists for four years and continue to stay active in the national organ and sacred music communities.

PERFORMANCE and NEW WORK INQUIRIES
If you are interested in hosting me for an organ recital or would like to discuss commissioning an original composition, please feel free to contact me. All fees are negotiable.
My focus as a composer includes (but is not limited to) music for:
- Choral works, a cappella and accompanied by keyboard instruments and/or small and large ensembles.
- Hymn arrangements for congregational singing with instrumental accompaniments.
- Vocal solo or ensemble works suitable for non-liturgical settings.
- Organ works: all original material or hymn- and chant-based.
I am not interested in writing vernacular Roman Catholic service music. The approved texts change with some frequency and render works using the older texts obsolete. However, Latin language Masses and motets are timeless.
